‘I try to capture the essence of things, the ding an sich…’

Chelsea School of Art Fine Art and Sculpture graduate, Louise Garman, is a working, exhibiting and selling artist who also does an array of art workshops and art talks in a variety of settings, from cruise ships to community spaces.

With further training at The Royal Academy and Slade School of Art in London, for her own practise, Louise creates uncompromising, experimental multi-media images with the volume tuned up to the unreal. Suffused with dreams of beauty and decay, natural and man-made, the scenes are set via drawings, video, installation, silkscreens, photographs, cyanotype and collage.

Louise, a director and studio holder at neo:artists in Greater Manchester, has exhibited all over Europe and the UK, including for the Royal Society of Women Artists at The Mall Galleries, London, the GM Arts Prize in Manchester, and in Stockholm, Oviedo and Paris. Louise’s latest solo show, Human Nature, was a pop-up forest exhibition featuring huge fabrics depicting swirling off-kilter landscapes.

Louise also takes on commercial projects, which have recently included trade union banners, large outdoor murals and commissioned canvases.
